I am A., a Berlin-based storyteller. “People Racializadas” is a blog relating stories of people of color and also addressing social topics. This blog aims to increase awareness of diverse identities and experiences as people of color are mostly confined by stereotypes. Media often accentuate stereotypes which may have consequences in daily life. The most striking experience was in Naples, a southern Italian city. Men depicted me as a sexual object, I would be approached as a prostitute.
I started blogging in 2018 with 2 projects “Black & Brown Women” interviewing Afrodescent women and then “Womxn of Color”, interviewing women of color. Where do People Racializadas come from? It combines people and the Spanish word racializadas meaning in English “racialized”. As I wanted the project to be more inclusive, I decided to take off the term “woman” to be more inclusive. I interview womxn and non-binary people of color.
The diversity in narratives is very important and we must all work on it.
